Day 102: May 27th
Little man is doing well today! We made it in for his 9am feed, which I tried giving it a go again. He took about half of his bottle.. although part of that could have been my fault. They had switched him back to an ultra preemie nipple (super low flow) last week while I was working up my confidence to feed him again. He was eating off of the preemie nipple beforehand, but would occasionally have a brady spell from getting too much milk. So the lactation nurse decided to just have him use the ultra preemie for the time being. One of his primary evening nurses was working last night. She mentioned he seemed to be collapsing the ultra nipple from trying to suck so hard and was sucking in more air.. so she switched him back to a preemie nipple and he did great! However I was still nervous about him having a brady event during our feed this morning, so I paced him a bit more than usual, and so he tuckered out kind of fast. He did almost brady, but again I was able to get him breathing again before the monitor started alarming. He did spit up a little bit for me. I then handed him off to Addi for a short bit, then on to Nick. Poor little guy was so uncomfortable. Nick laid him down to swaddle him back up in his blanket, then went to sit down and Ryker threw up ALL over his lap. He settled down pretty fast afterwards though… it seems he doesn’t tolerate much movement right after his feeds. He always seems to throw up his meal when he’s moved around too much right after.
