Our Family

Day 107: June 1st

I ended up staying the night last night.. We had visited Ryker in the evening, and the halls of the NICU were eerily empty. Not a nurse in sight. We got to Ryker’s room and a nurse had happened to pop by, saying the other nurses were at a delivery meeting, and she is watching over the babies.. Which from the looks of it, was quite a few down our hall.

Ryker was acting pretty cranky. Nick had picked him up and Ryker almost immediately burped. Then brady’d. I panicked.. My mind went straight to what Tori had mentioned earlier in the day saying he had a pretty bad brady. I ran out to the hall and asked for help. No one in sight.. The nurses phone alarming on the desk just outisde of his room. There were some parents on the complete other end of the NICU hall looking around.. I was honestly so frustrated and scared, even though Nick handled it really well. Finally, the one nurse who had popped by earlier came from another room down the hall to help, even though Nick had already got him out of his brady.

20 minutes later, Ryker’s nurse finally stops by and says she’s the “on call delivery nurse”.. That was unsettling as well.. I honestly was so annoyed and worried that there was NO ONE around, that I decided to stay the night, just in case something came up, like the stinker pulling out his prongs.. which he did a few times.. and I could be around to help..

Ryker once again didn’t meet his minimum for the night.. However he did meet his minimum during day shift. Amanda (one of his primary nurses) worked closely with him and noticed his feeding cues are a little different than other babies. Anytime he is awake, she found if she attempts a feed, he does really well. Unfortunately this can be a short window of time, and if missed or is supplemented a pacifier, he falls behind. He’s still been throwing up his feeds as well.. poor nugget.

Loved this little outfit his nurses found for him!!! Little Rocket.
