Our Family

Day 23: March 9th, 2019

Ryker seemed to have an easier evening than he did during the day. I was woken up as the nurses were in the room trying to place a catheter. Apparently his urine output was less than normal, and figured the surgery medication was a contributing factor. They were able to release a good amount of urine once placed. They did do his hematocrit test overnight, and it came back as the same 28% post surgery, so they left him as is.

He was still having issues with his drops in saturation. After another chest Xray, they found that part of his right lung was not expanding fully, and they figured it was once again due to the ventilator tubing being in too deep in that lung. So they made some minor adjustments, adjusted his ventilator to mimic what his CPAP machine was doing prior to surgery, and things seemed to start calming down once again. He’d have an occasional drop in oxygen saturation, but they were far and few between.

Today Addi & Zylee get to see their baby brother for the first time. Addi has been SO anxious to meet him! They didn’t allow children at the other hospital during flu season, however Children’s Hospital will allow them as long as they haven’t had any symptoms of a cold.

Addi’s first response was that he’s SOO CUTE, and SO LITTLE, like a baby doll! She honestly couldn’t stop staring at him for a good 5 minutes or so, and kept running back over to look at him. Zylee gave him a peak, would say “baby! baby!” then tap on his isolette (bed). She too would run back over to the bed and say “baby”, asking to see him again. Such sweet big sisters!

We took took the girls back to the Ronald McDonald house with us later that afternoon, so Z could have her nap and get ready for dinner. Once dinner was done, we took the girls down to the playroom and hung out until bed time. During that time I received a call from the hospital looking for consent for blood transfusion.. Ugh, not trilling news to hear. Apparently Ryker’s still having troubles with his oxygen saturation. After another hematocrit test this evening, it shows that it’s now dropped to 25%. They’ve bumped up his head ultrasound to this evening, just to check for any bleeding that may have occurred post surgery. We should know results tomorrow.. Not easy information to receive as you are headed to bed… I’ll update when I know more.
