Our Family

Day 27 March 13th… 3lbs 13.5oz.. Head Circumference: 28.4cm

We had another reasonably calm day (medically, not outside!). Ryker is still having a lot of secretion build up, and it appears there may be some sort of bacteria in his lungs. So he’s being treated with antibiotics over the next few days. He’s also still having saturation drops, and spitting up after feeds, and a bit of an elevated heart rate. The docs are wondering if he’s having a bit of reflux, which is causing discomfort and possibly getting into his lungs when he spits up. They’ve decided to push his feeding tube in towards his small intestine to reduce the chances of spitting up, extending his feeds, and gave him a bit of Tylenol. Seems to have helped a bit. We’ll see what the adjustments bring.

I did get some snuggle time in for the first time in a week! It was so nice.. I missed holding our little guy! Nick is anxious to get back down here and get his own snuggles in.

Today was the “BombCyclone” blizzard event. It was pretty intense combination of wind and snow, causing the hospital power to flicker throughout the afternoon and evening. An odd silence would fill the halls when the generators would kick in.. They had put a request in for an Xray to check placement of his feeding tube. Unfortunately the Xray team couldn’t get to our floor until about 9pm as the electrical issues caused the elevators throughout the hospital to stop working. Seems we have kids in the NICU during historical events.. The ‘Total Solar Eclipse’ occurred while Zylee was in the NICU. That was a fun experience! The nurses were so kind to share their solar glasses so that Nick, Addi, and I could see it happen! Even Zylee got to try on the solar glasses. The crescent shape in the shadows was pretty surreal to see as well!
