Day 48: April 3rd
Another calm day for little man. He’s doing so well, hanging in the low-mid 40’s for oxygen on his CPAP of 5. He’ll have bloodwork for electrolytes, glucose, hematocrit, and blood gas tomorrow. I’m hoping good blood gas results means that they can start weaning him off of CPAP all together so we can see his sweet little face again. His nurse readjusted his mask during cares earlier, and he did surprisingly well when she took off the CPAP machine. He kept his oxygen saturation up for a decent amount of time before gradually desatting. He definitely still needs the oxygen support, but it was nice to see he’s showing signs of progress! Physical Therapy stopped by today and introduced herself. She worked with him on movements that he’ll experience at home, such as laying on his side, sitting up with support – as if you were holding him in your lap, leaning him backwards with cupped hands, and stretching out his arms and legs. She seems to be pleased with how he’s handling everything.
His nurse today was Tori- she was his nurse the day of his surgery. She was so attentive and concerned about him that day. We really appreciated her! We’ve only had her another 2-3 of times in the last 4 weeks. The second time she was his nurse, she told me how concerned she was about him post surgery. He was having saturation drops like crazy that day… She told me she normally doesn’t think about her babies once she gets home, but she couldn’t get Ryker off her mind. She had called in several times that evening to check in on him. Today she told me she requested to be one of his primary nurses, and I was so happy! She absolutely adores him, and said she loves to hold him during her shift. It’s so nice to see him so loved and cared for when we can’t be there to snuggle him ourselves.
Ryker is chunking out big time! He’s starting to fill in everywhere! Check out his double chin he’s got going! 😍 Looking forward to what his blood tests results come back as, and hope we can start taking a few more steps forward toward going home!
