Day 55: April 10th
Ryker had a bit of a rough night. His nurse mentioned he threw up several of his meals throughout the evening.. They decided to change his feeds back to 2 hours. They did another blood gas this morning to see how he’s handling the CPAP of 5. His oxygen levels have been dropped to 40% (down from 45-50% range), which he seems to be tolerating well. However, his blood gas numbers didn’t come back stellar. They ordered another X-ray to see if there were any signs of issues there. His lungs looked nice and symmetrical which was great! Although they did show some fluid build up, likely from the amount of fluid he was retaining before. He was give another dose of diuretic in hopes to help clear that out again. They also saw his feeding tube was sitting a bit high in his stomach, which commonly happens as babies grow. It may have been part of the reason for his spitting up episodes overnight. It’s been replaced and readjusted for his size. Hopefully he’ll be able to keep his food down, and we can attempt consolidating his feeds again in a day or two.
Ryker had his second eye exam to check for ROP. His results came back as Zone 3, Stage 1, No Plus disease. In other words, it looks as though he has a good change his eyes will develop normally! We’re thrilled! He will have another eye exam in 2 weeks, just to continue to monitor his progress.
I also came across one of his name signs they had made from the other hospital. I had a good laugh as it seems the “rocket” theme started when he was first born! I love how it transferred over to Children’s without them seeing any of the crafts they did at UC Health. They are diverse in their choices of name sign themes! Eduardo across the hall has a dinosaur, Judah has a lion theme, Wyatt has Woody from Toy Story. And then we have our little Rocket Ryker!
