Day 66: April 21
Little man had a rough morning. He can’t seem to keep his food down. He threw up a couple of times overnight, one which he had to be bagged to get his oxygen levels back up. His day nurse said he threw up 5-6 times before noon since she clocked on at 7… They’ve decided to cut his feeds back to half of what they were and supplement with IV nutrients.
They had done an X-ray to confirm location of his feeding tube. In that X-ray they found a pocket of air in his intestine, so they proceeded to do a few more X-rays to confirm it really was in his intestine and not in his abdomen. Thankfully it was just a gas bubble, which he let out shortly after they rolled him around a bit to get different angles on film.
The good news for today is the neonatal team says he’s over his acute sickness (pneumonia). They’ll continue antibiotics for the 7 days, but his secretions are much less and he sounds a lot better.
They are also continually weaning him off the vent. They’ve been able to drop his settings every 12 hours. The goal is to get him extubated and back onto CPAP by Wednesday. 🤞🏻
Hoppy Easter!
