Day 67: April 22
Ryker is having a decent day today. Poor nugget lost his IV, so they had to place a new one for his fluids. It took 4 nurses to finally get one, and even then, it ended up being in a funky place on his wrist. We’re hoping it lasts long enough to get him back on full feeds.
I suggested to the neonatal team about venting his feeding tube. When he was vented at the other hospital, they had to vent his tube constantly, otherwise he’s throw up all the time. Considering they keep finding bubbles in his intestine and pulling out air from his stomach before each feed, it wouldn’t hurt to try. Within the first 20 minutes of being vented, he “burped” as they call it through the tube. I noticed he didn’t get as angry as long as he used to. I’m hoping this solves some of his discomfort and spitting up issues.
Respiratory has been able to continue to wean his vent. Hoping we’re still on track for Wednesday extubation!
He’s been much more alert these last few days as well. It’s so nice to see his sweet eyes!
