Day 83: May 8th
Today is the day to see how little man does with taking a bottle!
We had planned to give it a go at his noontime feeding. He wasn’t up for it though. He apparently had his eye exam around 10 and was wiped out from it. So I hung around and waited for his 3pm feeding.
This time he was awake and ready to go! The nurse gave me 10ml to start, just to see what he would do he immediately latched to the bottle and started sucking away. He took it so fast, his nurse had turned around to pass off a phone to a fellow nurse, that by the time she turned back, it was gone. So she put another 15ml in his bottle, and he once again sucked that down in just a few seconds. Once he was done, he immediately rotated his head towards me like he wanted to nurse. I was so impressed! She said we’d gradually work towards more food, she didn’t want to over due it the first go around.
Currently they have an order to attempt bottle feeding once a shift. So we’ll give it a go again tomorrow.
