Day 95: May 20th
No new changes today.
Apparently his nurse last night thought he possibly had a hernia in his crotch/lower abdominal region. They put in request for a surgeon to stop by to look it over, or to see if it was a hydrocele which was previously diagnosed Thankfully they were able confirm it was just the hydrocele in his testicle area. It appears to be a non-communicating hydrocele, which is good news! Usually it does not require treatment and should absorb on its own by his first birthday. Had it been communicating, they said they’d be able to push the fluid back into his abdominal cavity, which would mean there would be a hole in his abdominal muscles and could potentially cause his intestines to poke through, and would require surgery to fix. I’m glad we’ve dodged that bullet!
Still doing ok on his feeds. He’s been taking about 2-3 per shift, but only seems to finish about 1 full bottle per shift. His night time nurse apparently got spooked at his 9pm feed when he had a Bradycardia event (which he does semi-often), and she didn’t feel comfortable continuing bottle feeds during her shift.. tomorrow is another day. Hopefully we’ll make some more progress this week.
