Day 96: May 21st
No changes today on respiratory. Ryker did well on bottle feeds during his day shift with Tori. She was great walking me through tips and tricks to feeding him without having a Brady event. I’m gradually working my confidence up to give bottle feeding a go again, and being in the room was a big step.
He has seemed pretty uncomfortable during & post feeds (more so recently) and several of his nurses believe he is having reflux. Tori scored him at a 17/25 for GERD assessment. He’s gotten to a point to where he’s screaming in pain.. So they’ll be starting Zantac in hopes that it’ll help. Tori also noticed he may have thrush as well, which she said often times can irritate the back of their throat and cause them to struggle with feeds. She said she was going to confirm the next time he was awake. Poor nugget.. I’m hoping the treatments for both will be the solution.
Zylee was really cute today. Drop in care was closed, so she hung out in the room with me. I was holding Ryker near his crib, and she was watching baby shark & other kids song shows on the other side of the room (the only way I can get her not to push all of the buttons, or run into the hall..) She glanced over at me and saw I was holding him and runs over with open arms saying “baby! baby!” like she wanted to hold him. She came over and tickled his toes, saying “shoes! shoes!” then wandered back to her show. I had placed Ryker back in his crib, and grabbed Zylee to see her baby brother laying down. She pulled herself in close and told him “I love you” then started playing peek-a-boo with him. The whole time he couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. If I had let her, she would have crawled right in to play with him. It was the sweetest thing! I hope they are the best of buds as they grow up together.
